Caravans catch fire in Umm Al Quwain fire

The director of UAQ Civil Defence said firefighters extinguished the fire in "record time" before it could spread to neighbouring farms.

Several caravans caught fire in a farm in Umm Al Quwain on Thursday.

Police received a report about the fire at 9.30am and immediately dispatched firefighters to the site in the Kaber area.

Col Hasan Ali Mohammed bin Sarm, director of UAQ Civil Defence, said firefighters extinguished the fire in "record time" before it could spread to neighbouring farms.

He said no injuries were reported.

Col bin Sarm warned against dumping dangerous and flammable waste in or close to manufacturing areas. He said incorrect storage of such waste can easily ignite during the hot weather

Investigations under way to determine the cause of the fire.
