ABU DHABI // The British School-Al Khubairat gave Dh107,000 (US$29,000) to an Emirates Foundation programme yesterday. The donation is the proceeds from the school's 40th-anniversary fund-raising dinner, which was held in May. Al Khubairat chose the foundation's Takatof programme as its beneficiary because it works with local schools. Takatof was begun last year to encourage young people to participate in volunteer work. One of the main Takatof initiatives - a partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Abu Dhabi Education Council - takes volunteers into schools to carry out work such as painting, cleaning and gardening.
Paul Coakley, principal of Al Khubairat, said the school raises money for a worthy cause each year. "The philosophy of the 40th anniversary was that we would say a thank you for all the support we've received over the 40 years," he said. klewis@thenational.ae
