British expatriates in the UAE can now get a new passport for substantially less following a new pricing schedule.

The UK’s immigration and security minister, James Brokenshire, said the fee for customers applying for a UK passport from overseas will be £45 (Dh275) for adults and £28.50 (Dh175) for children from April 7.

This means that an adult 32-page passport will cost £83 (Dh507), a child 32-page passport £53 (Dh324) and a 48-page passport, which is available to adults and children, will cost £91 (Dh556).

This reduction comes as a result of efficiency savings made over the past three years by bringing back the processing and issuing of overseas passports to the UK, Mr Brokenshire said.

This reduction follows the 2012 decrease in fee by £5 (Dh31) for all UK citizens applying within the UK.
