The Emirati boy was playing soccer with friends near his house in Adhen on Sunday when the accident occurred.

The boy’s skull was fractured and he suffered from a brain bleed, as well as severe fractures in his right hip and left leg. He was transported by helicopter to Khalifa Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah and later to Rashid hospital in Dubai.

The 28-year-old Emirati driver of the car, identified as A M, was driving a white Lexus at 40 to 60km/h when he hit the boy.

“The driver was questioned on the same day and we are waiting for the final medical report in order to transfer the case to the specialized department,” Captain Al Mazrouie said.

A family member said doctors operated on the boy’s skull and legs and he is expected to remain in hospital for six to eight weeks.

Police urged motorists to stay alert while driving and obey traffic rules and speed limits.
