Bogus police kidnapped and robbed motorist, Dubai court hears
DUBAI // Four men pretended to be police officers to kidnap and rob a motorist, a court heard.
The victim said they accused him of bootlegging alcohol, dragged him out of his car, handcuffed him, and then threw him in the back seat of his vehicle and drove off.
Three of the men assaulted him before dumping him in Oud Al Mutaina and taking his car, Dh19,900 in cash, two mobile phones, a laptop and documents.
A few hours later, police were notified about a gutted car that turned out to be the victim’s 2008 Chevrolet. Police believe the gang torched it to cover their tracks.
Pakistanis A N, 27; A K, 24; K R, 27; and N B, 32, were later arrested and charged over the attack on the Dubai to Al Ain Road on August 28.
Prosecutors said A N confessed during interrogation and named the other three men as his accomplices. Records said K R set the vehicle alight.
At Dubai Criminal Court, A N confessed to stealing the car but denied impersonating a policeman and arson.
The other three denied all charges.
The next hearing was scheduled for January 12.
