Body lies on pathway for hours
DUBAI // A man fell to his death from a footbridge in Jumeirah Beach Residence yesterday morning. Police are investigating the incident, which they suspect was a suicide. Witnesses said the body of the man, a young Indian with a European passport, lay uncovered on the pathway of The Walk for some hours before being removed in an ambulance. Regan McKean, 34, an advertising executive, was on her way to a fitness class just before 6am when she saw the body lying under a footbridge that leads to the Movenpick Hotel.
"I was horrified," she said. "The body was just lying there on the pavement. At first, I thought it was just a guy asleep on the pavement. The area was taped off, but the body was just lying there uncovered." She said a security guard at the hotel said the body had been there since around 4am. The body was being taken away on a stretcher when Ms McKean returned to her flat near Movenpick just after 7am.
Adel Naeem of the Movenpick marketing department declined to provide details. "It didn't occur on the grounds of the hotel, but was nearby," he said. The footbridge leads from the hotel to the beach side of The Walk, where it is accessible to the public. It is about eight metres high, witnesses said. @Email:firstname.lastname@example.org
