Divers and a crane were needed to remove a 40ft wooden barge from Dubai Creek yesterday after the vessel sank under the weight of its load. The boat's six Iranian crew members were unhurt but 60 tonnes of electronics bound for Iran from Port Rashid sunk with the ship, authorities said. The load was greater than the boat could carry, it had suffered many leaks and had taken on water as it set off for Iran, said Captain Yahya Hussein, from the marine rescue division of Dubai Police.
