DUBAI // Thousands packed The Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence to watch the world's best motorcycle riders in action last night.
A special arena, with a capacity of more than 20,000, was built on site for the local round of the Red Bull X-Fighters International Freestyle Motocross 2012 series.
"It was a sold-out crowd last year. We got a very positive response this year too, and everyone is excited about it," said Alberto Chahoud, a spokesman for Red Bull.
The event in Dubai was the first of six rounds in the series, which will continue in the US, Turkey, Spain, Germany and Australia.
Ronnie Renner, a freestyle motocross expert from the US, said more motorcycle tracks should be built in Dubai to encourage people to take up the sport.
"I am coming here for the fourth time and I met a lot of riders," Renner said. " They all love it."
The event was held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai.
