Preparations to Light Up 2018 are well under way in Downtown Dubai, as residents, tourists and businesses gear up to ring in the new year. Emaar plans to take it one step further by breaking a Guinness World Record, although organisers are not saying which world record they hope to break.

As part of its #LightUp2018 campaign, the company will use the landmark Burj Khalifa to put on a massive light spectacle. In a video posted to the Burj Khalifa's Twitter profile, staff are seen in and outside the world's tallest building, getting the laser lights in place.

Burj Khalifa will also open its chic rooftop venue, The Burj Club, for the first time for views of the celebrations too.

Officials have urged those in the city to take note of road closures in and around the Dubai Mall tomorrow afternoon. This as the RTA and security officials finalise their plans for the celebrations, which is expected to draw in thousands of revellers.
