The body of a baby girl has been found in a plastic bag dumped near a rubbish bin in Sharjah.
The dead infant was discovered by a worker on the premises of the private waste management company Bee'ah, in Al Sajaa industrial zone on Saturday.
Sharjah Police took the body to the forensic lab for tests to establish whether the child died at birth or after being placed in the bag, Al Ittihad newspaper reported a police source as saying.
The child was newly born and weighed about 3kg, the source added, noting that police are looking to identify the parents in order to narrow down the search for the person who committed the crime.
There have been a number of incidents involving babies being abandoned in Sharjah so far this year.
In April, a newborn was found by a watchman in a rubbish bin in the Al Taawun building in the early hours of the morning. The boy had been thrown down a ninth-floor rubbish chute an hour after being born. He spent 40 days in hospital after sustaining fractures and bruises.
In March, a 10-day-old girl was found abandoned outside a villa in the Heera neighbourhood, while in January a passer-by discovered a crying baby, which was less than 10 days old, wrapped in a blanket and placed in a box on a street in the Al Dhaid area early in the morning.
