SHARJAH // A five-month-old boy has died in hospital after falling from his mother’s arms down an escalator at Sharjah Airport.
The Pakistani mother was carrying her son along with their bags up the escalator about 2.30 yesterday morning when she lost her grip on him.
The baby suffered serious injuries to his head and body.
Salem Al Midfa, director general of Sharjah Airport, said police and paramedics took the mother and child to the airport’s clinic for treatment before transferring them to Al Qassimi Hospital.
A spokesman for the hospital said the baby was taken to the intensive-care unit but died an hour later.
A police spokesman said a case file has been handed to Al Heera police station and officers are investigating.
Als yesterday morning, a 27-year-old Pakistani woman fell to her death from a 15th floor balcony in the Al Nahda neighbourhood. The woman’s body has been taken to the police forensic laboratory.
