A drunken man smashed a bottle over a police officer's head after chasing a woman down a street in Dubai, a court heard.
The 23-year-old, from Saudi Arabia, had been drinking in a hotel in Barsha Heights before carrying out the assault, Dubai Criminal Court was told.
Court records stated that a European woman - whose nationality and age were not disclosed - alerted police after being chased by a man brandishing a bottle of alcohol.
The defendant is said to have struck a police officer with the bottle when he intervened.
He was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries.
The incident is alleged to have taken place on August 26 of this year.
A fellow officer stepped in and helped restrain the accused and take him into custody.
"He assaulted my colleague and insulted both of us using very strong language," said an Emirati officer, 29.
The accused admitted during police questioning that he had been drinking alcohol and said he couldn't remember the incident.
He was not present in court to face charges of assaulting and insulting police officers.
A verdict will be issued on December 18.
