Dubai // A housekeeper at the Atlantis resort pleaded guilty yesterday to stealing US$1,000 (Dh3,668) from a guest's room. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, DM, 20, who was remanded in police custody, used his access card on May 13 to enter the room at the five-star hotel on the Palm Jumeirah and found the cash. He gave the money to another man, AR, 31, to keep for him, Dubai Court of Second Instance was told.
After the guest discovered that the money was missing, he contacted the hotel's security staff, who found that the only other person to have entered the room was DM. When questioned by security staff, DM admitted taking the money. He said he had given it to AR, who handed it back when he was questioned by security staff. The cash was returned to the guest. Both men were then asked to leave the Atlantis and go home.
The hotel's public relations manager called the police to report the theft, telling them where both men could be found. They were later arrested. DM appeared in court without a lawyer. The case was adjourned for sentencing on August 4. ealghalib@thenational.ae
