Arabian Gulf League: Live on UAE channels soon
DUBAI //The Arabian Gulf League, formerly known as the Pro League, will be shown on Abu Dhabi and Dubai sports channels from September.
Abu Dhabi Media (ADM), which publishes The National, and Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) have agreed to partner for the broadcasting rights to cover the Arabian Gulf League, Reserves League, Super Cup and League Cup for the next three years.
The agreement is an extension of the coverage the companies have been jointly handling for the past five years.
Audiences will be able to watch live coverage with local studio shows and commentary of the matches on the Abu Dhabi and Dubai sports channels.
"This proposed partnership showcases the solid on-going relationship between ADM and DMI over the past five years," said Mohamed Najeeb, the head of the Abu Dhabi Sports channels.
Rashed Amiri, the general manager of the Dubai Sports channels, said the agreement would help improve the coverage and expand the reach of the league to viewers worldwide.
"The decision ... to have a unified offer for the TV rights of the Arabian Gulf League is another example of the successful cooperation for the benefit of the viewers.
"It is also a step forward for the future of the UAE league, making sure to promote the matches worldwide."
