Amnesty seeks clarification from UAE officials
ABU DHABI // Amnesty International, in a release issued today, has urged UAE officials to disclose the status of a former school teacher allegedly arrested for publicly expressing solidarity with demonstrators in Egypt and Tunisia.
Amnesty said Hassan Mohammed Hassan al Hammadi, 52, was arrested last Friday in Khor Fakkan in Sharjah after allegedly coming out in support of the demonstrations in a speech during Friday prayers.
The London-based human rights organisation called on UAE officials to disclose the legal status of Mr al Hammadi. Government officials did not comment in the case.
