DUBAI // An American student sent a cache of crystal meth and a glass pipe through the post for his own use, a court heard.

The drugs were intercepted after an inspector became suspicious and searched the package.

Emirati inspector Y M, 37, said he was scanning packages from the United States on October 13. He noticed strange bodies hidden under shirts and socks in one of the packages.

“I opened the package and asked a colleague to search it and when he did, he found the drugs hidden in two plastic bags and stashed carefully inside the clothes,” he said.

He added that they also found a glass pipe to consume the substances. The defendant, 29, was detained when he tried to collect the package.

C H confessed to charges of smuggling and possessing 7.44 grams of methamphetamine known as crystal meth when he was interrogated, the prosecution alleged. But he denied them at Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday.

The next hearing was set for January 21.
