DUBAI // A man is facing charges over the kidnap, beating and gang-rape of a waitress two years ago.

M?K, 26, a Bangladeshi carpenter, was arrested while trying to leave the country on an unspecified date.

Prosecutors say he is one of three men who posed as policemen to lure the Filipina J?M into their car.

The waitress, who was 33 at the time, had just finished work and was walking to a grocery shop near her house about 2am when a green car pulled up alongside her.

She said three men stepped out and asked for her identification papers, saying they were policemen.

One gagged her and the other two hustled her into the car, she said, adding she was blindfolded, and slapped every time she struggled.

They took her to a flat and told her they would kill or jail her if she did not have sex with them, she said.

"I was put into a car the next morning at nearly 7.00 where they slapped me again, then stole my watch, ring, earrings and Dh200 in cash. They dropped me at a bus station with Dh50," she said.

The waitress wrote down their number plate and reported the incident to police.

The policeman A?A testified that M?K confessed to him he had sex with the waitress, but with her consent and in return for money.

The officer said the defendant told him the other two, who remain at large, called him and said there was a woman available for sex. They picked him up from his Ajman home, booked a room in the emirate, then met her and had consensual sex.

The defendant was not present in Dubai Criminal Court to enter a plea but he is expected to do so at the next hearing, due on June 21.
