AL AIN // Al Ain Wildlife Park and Resort is inviting young Emiratis to take part in its summer internship programme.
The internships, which begin in July, offer participants experience in such areas as animal collection, veterinary and park operations, guest relations and marketing and communications.
Since its inception last year, the training programme has provided opportunities to more than 40 students from various academic institutions throughout the emirate.
"The summer training and internship programmes at [the park] are key elements of our nationalisation programme, as they showcase the many ways in which [the park] can offer a rewarding career for Emiratis, whether it is an administrative role at our head office or a more specialised position within the zoo, working with the animals," said Ghanim Mubarak Al Hajeri, the director general of the park and resort.
Interns who prove themselves may be offered full-time positions after they graduate.
"In 2011 alone, [the park] has hired 21 UAE nationals, 13 of whom have already begun employment, with more expected over the summer," said Mariam Al Shamsi, the facility's human resources director.
"Our growing pool of Emirati talent and the extensive training we offer is testament to our commitment to employing great local talent and supporting the local community."

The facility was first established as Al Ain Zoo in 1968 by the late Sheikh Zayed, founder of the UAE, and now covers 900 hectares. It is home to more than 183 species, totalling 4,300 animals, 30 per cent of which are endangered.
