Abu Dhabi // The safety of pupils will be the focus of a three-month traffic education campaign as the academic year begins.

Through Student Safety is Everybody's Responsibility, the Ministry of Interior aims to ensure drivers, parents and pupils are conscious of changes in traffic patterns.

"School students of all ages are a key component for human development and they must be protected," said Col Nasser Al Hosani, the deputy director general of traffic coordination at the ministry.

The campaign will teach pupils the proper way to cross roads or wait for the school bus. It also urges adults to be careful when driving near school areas.

"Despite the fact that all precautionary measures are taken to protect children from various hazards, there is still a need for more awareness and guidance for parents and other stakeholders," Col Al Hosani said.

He said the campaign, which is to be promoted through the media, will be conducted with partners including traffic authorities, the Ministry of Education, the national school bus company Emirates Transport, and Dubai Roads and Transport Authority.
