Abu Dhabi steps up food inspections

Inspections on food establishments have been stepped up in the last four weeks, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (FCA) has said.

Inspections on food establishments have been stepped up in the last four weeks, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (FCA) has said.

The renewed campaign targeted 285 food establishments in Abu Dhabi emirate and resulted in 64 warnings and the disposing of 280 kilograms of spoilt foodstuffs.

The director of communication and community service at the FCA, Mohammed Jalal Al Rissi, noted that the main breaches included failure to operate insect traps; failure to keep the lid on rubbish bins at all times; failure to wear uniforms while distributing lunch; failure to separate food items in the fridge and freezer; failure to provide adequate labels for dried foods and oriental sweets; and using inadequate methods to thaw frozen foods.
