The Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi Hotel and the headquarters of ADNOC will be among more than 70 global landmarks to be lit red in celebration of a Special Olympics milestone, as the capital gears up for hosting the sporting event next year.
The two buildings will join the London Eye, the Royal Palace in Bucharest, Niagara Falls, the Nelson Mandela statue in Johannesburg and the African Renaissance Monument in Senegal in a global display of unity, as part of the Special Olympics 50th anniversary celebrations.
Light Up for Inclusion on July 20 is part of festivities being held from July 17 to July 21 in Chicago, the host city of the first games in 1968.
Athletes, coaches, supporters and celebrities will commemorate 50 years of courage and empowerment for people with special needs, and participate in a weekend filled with inspiring events.
Abu Dhabi will host the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi from March 8 to March 22.
More than 7,000 athletes from some 170 countries will take part.
The emirate warmed up for the main event with a successful Special Olympics Mena Games in March, which more than 1,000 athletes representing 32 countries attended.
