ABU DHABI // The Interior Ministry’s Child Protection Centre has launched an awareness campaign dubbed “Together to Prevent Child Abuse”.

The campaign is part of an annual initiative by the Higher Committee for Child Protection, to dedicate the month of April to preventing child abuse, in line with the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect.

Maj Gen Nasser Al Nuaimi, secretary general of the office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, who also chairs the higher committee, said a series of events and activities will be rolled out targeting all segments of society and age groups.

He said children in the UAE “must be given the utmost care and be provided with a safe environment that would help forge their characters”.

The Child Protection Centre was keen to raise community awareness and educate parents and teaching staff about various forms of child abuse and ways to prevent it.

The campaign includes a majlis to address domestic violence, a seminar “Safe Childhood, Promising Future” and awareness courses in schools and media advertising.
