Abu Dhabi bus driver has permit revoked after endangering child

A school bus driver has had his permit revoked after he failed to stop at a stop sign and endangered the life of a child in Abu Dhabi's Al Falah residential area.

The bus driver sped passed a second school bus that had parked on the side of the road to drop off a pupil. The parked bus had a stop sign displayed as the pupil and a bus supervisor crossed the road.

This was ignored and the pupil and the supervisor were almost hit by the speeding bus.

“The Department of Transport emphasised the seriousness and determination to enforce the law without any compromise on security and safety of the students, within its efforts to establish a safe and sustainable school transport system that meets the aspirations of the wise leadership in securing the highest levels of security, safety and comfort for all segments of society,” the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport said in a statement. “It called for the concerted efforts of all members of society to assume responsibility for themselves, the health and safety of others, especially schoolchildren."

In March, an 18-month old toddler was run over by a school bus in Sharjah while waiting for his siblings to return home.
