The idea that the Quran should only be recited and read in Arabic wasn't originally part of our religion. Persians were some of the earliest converts, and they translated the holy book. However, since the Quran was such a revelation, and since it was revealed in Arabic, imams of yesteryear felt Arabic was the only way to gain the true meaning of the verses. As you might have discovered, Arabic is a tricky language in which we could have multiple meanings from one word.

Translating the Quran is so tricky, in fact, that most translators don't call their work the Quran, opting instead for variations such as The Meaning of the Glorious Quran.
