600 warnings handed out in Sharjah fire safety drive
About 600 fire safety warnings have been given to beauty salons and schools in Sharjah since January in the emirate's first campaign to address safety violations. Violations were found in storage areas, workers' living accommodation, electrical fixtures and cooking facilities, said Hareb al Tunaiji, the head of the Sharjah Emergency Inspection Committee. After a third warning, committee inspectors impose fines of up to Dh1,000 (US$270). About 400 warnings went to salons for crowding and lacking fire extinguishers, while the rest went to schools.
