5 die in UAE road crash, including mum and 3 children

Five people, including three children - two girls, aged seven and two, and a boy, aged four - have died in a car crash in Sharjah.

Five people, including three children, died in a car crash in Sharjah yesterday evening.

The accident occurred on Maliha road at around 6pm when a Pakistani family's small sedan car swerved into the opposing lane and hit a 4x4 going in the opposite direction.

The 4x4, driven by an Emirati man, 27, swerved and rolled over several times, killing him.

The sedan split in half, killing the mother, 31, along with her three children - two girls, aged seven and two, and a boy, aged four.

The driver, the father, 35, was severely injured and taken to Al Dhaid Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Police said early indications were that the family was returning from performing Umrah, and the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
