ABU DHABI // Three people died and 11 were injured when a minibus collided with a taxi at the junction of Sheikh Saif bin Mohammed and Al Saada (19th) streets in the Mushrif area early on Sunday morning.
Police said the 14-seater minibus jumped the red light and collided with the taxi. Two people in the minibus and one taxi passenger died.
The crash injured 11, one of them seriously. Four sustained moderate injuries while six had minor injuries.
Al Ittihad newspaper quoted Major Abdullah Al Suwaidi, the head of the investigations section at Abu Dhabi Police, as saying that initial investigations showed the driver of the minibus, who was speeding, had caused the accident.
In the first quarter of 2012, motorists running red lights caused 65 crashes, resulting in six deaths.
