An estimated 278 million rides have been taken using the Dubai transport network of taxis in the first half of 2018.

Of these, 103 million rides were taken on the Dubai metro, accounting for 37 per cent of transit users.

Public transport means in Dubai carried 277.91m people with about 1.53 million unique rides a day.

It is consistent with last year’s use, with an increase of less than one per cent in the same period of 2017.

BurJuman station and Union station, where the red and green metro lines meet, proved to be the busiest stations.

It is estimated that 16.4 per cent of the population used Dubai public transport in 2017.

The Roads and Transport Authority aims to increase this to 20 per cent by 2020 and 30 per cent by 2030 through the expansion of public transport networks and services.
