A group of Emirati volunteers travelled to Tanzania this month to help repair and refurbish three government schools.

The 20 volunteers from Takatof, the Emirates Foundation’s social volunteering programme, flew to Dar Es Salaam on November 8 and spent 12 days working in the African country.

With the aid of 10 volunteers from Tanzania, they were able to renovate Burnet Lecture Hall at Lugalo School, build 100 desks for pupils at Mkunguni School, and renovate and replace a roof over six classrooms at Hananasif School.

Overall, the Emirates Foundation believes 1,500 hours of work went into the project.

While the volunteers were in Tanzania, the UAE ambassador, Abdullah Al Suwaidi, visited one of the worksites to offer a helping hand.

He said that the UAE Embassy would provide all possible support and assistance to ensure great success for the Takatof volunteering project in Tanzania.

He urged UAE officials in other nations visited by Takatof volunteers to offer them the same level of solidarity and support.

Takatof’s foreign projects aim to provide volunteers with new experiences and give them a chance to represent the UAE internationally.
