More than 100 gold bars weighing 12kg were found stashed in the toilet of a plane that took off from Abu Dhabi.
Bangladeshi intelligence and customs officials made the discovery after the plane landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday. The bars had been hidden behind a mirror in the lavatory.
The Biman flight BG 128 landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from Abu Dhabi at about 9.20am. It had a brief stopover at Chittagong, Bangladesh, before reaching its final destination.
"Members of the intelligence agency seized 106 pieces of gold bars weighing around 12 kilograms, from a toilet of Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG-128) in an abandoned condition on Monday morning," Othelo Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Customs House, told a local news agency.
He said no-one had been arrested but an investigation had been launched in an attempt to find the smugglers.
