1,500 villas for Emiratis to be built in Al Ain

Roads, telecoms and power networks will be part of the Dh712m project that has been approved.

Al Ain // A Dh712 million project to build houses for Emiratis in Al Ain has been approved.

The plan includes the construction of 1,580 villas as well as infrastructure such as roads, power, sewage and rain water networks, telecommunications and landscaping.

The development, known as the Sheibat Alwatah housing project, will be carried out over the next 28 months.

The villas are dedicated to Emirati families, as part of the Government's housing programmes.

Al Ain Municipality was authorised to approve all contracts presented by the real-estate developer before they were finalised with the consultants, engineering firms and contracting companies that will partner in the completion of the infrastructure work.

Upon directives from the President, Sheikh Khalifa, housing projects intended for Emiratis are a top priority on the Executive Council's agenda.

The President has frequently underlined the importance of guaranteeing the highest possible standards of living conditions for citizens.

Previous projects have included the authorisation of the Dh1.145 billion Ghayathi housing project in the Western Region last year.

The project spans about 420 hectares and includes 786 two-storey, five-bedroom villas with external service quarters and majlis, each covering about 537 square metres.

A wide range of service buildings and public facilities will be included, such as mosques, shops, schools and entertainment centres.

Other housing projects in Al Ain include the Jebal Hafeet development of 3,000 villas and amenities such as schools, health centres and mosques. Stretching over 4.4 million square metres at the western base of the mountain, the project is 13 kilometres south of Al Ain city centre.

Nearby is Al Ghuraibah housing project - 1,022 homes surrounded by the Hafeet mountains.

Al Ain's Al Fayda housing project, also near Jebel Hafeet, offers 2,000 villas.

Abu Dhabi plans to build 13,000 houses for Emiratis across the emirate by 2015.

Nationals can also apply for interest-free loans of up to Dh2m to build a house or carry out expansion and renovation works at existing homes.
