U.N. Chief hails UAE President's stances on international peace and development.
NEW YORK, 14th September 2013 /WAM/-- The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, has expressed appreciation of the stances of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his efforts towards enhancing international peace and development efforts. Ki-moon made his remarks as he met, at the United Nations, the Ahmed Abdul Rehman Al-Jarman, the outgoing Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, in a meeting to mark the end of the ambassador's tenure in this office which he had assumed in 2007. The United Nations chief hailed the diplomatic efforts and contributions Al-Jarman has made during his tenure reflecting the UAE's growing role in international multi-lateral efforts in political, economic and humanitarian spheres, noting in particular the UAE's generous contributions to the United Nations' funds and programmes relating to humanitarian issues, human rights and assistance to disaster-hit and developing countries.
Ki-moon also hailed the UAE's balanced and prudent domestic and foreign policies which earned it an outstanding stature alongside the advanced nations thanks to its regional and international achievements and contributions in all spheres. Ways of enhancing cooperation between the UAE and the United Nations, in light of their growing bilateral ties, were discussed at the meeting. The two sides also exchanged views on matters of political matters and issues of common concern to the UN and the UAE, in particular the developments of the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, the crisis in Syria and the position on Syria's chemical-weapons arsenal. At the meeting, the U.N. chief asked the UAE outgoing ambassador to convey to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan his warm greetings and wishes for further progress and prosperity for the UAE and its people. Ki-moon also wished Al-Jarman success in his new assignments.
