The life of Thomas Burberry celebrated in film
British fashion house Burberry is celebrating 160 years of fashion. To commemorate this milestone, a new film was launched last week in London, and is dedicated to the life of the founder, Thomas Burberry. The short portrays key events that helped shape his vision for the brand.
The new film, entitled The Tale of Thomas Burberry, was created under the supervision of director Asif Kapadia, and has been timed to coincide with the upcoming festive season.
Thomas Burberry is played by Irish actor and writer Domhnall Gleeson, while Lily James plays a fictitious figure that is heavily based on the real character of Betty Kirby Green. Green, a pilot, broke the world record in 1937 for her return flight from England to Cape town in a plane called The Burberry. Meanwhile, Dominic West plays Sir Earnest Shackleton, another real life explorer, who wore Burberry gaberdine during his gruelling Antarctic explorations in the early 1900s.
Burberry decided to honour their founder by making his life story available to a wider audience with this film, which celebrates his achievements as both an inventor and adventurer.
