Abu Dhabi's annual Summer Festival provides many good reasons to leave the air-conditioned comfort of your home or office.
Summer's not all bad in the UAE
Aside from travel agents and cold-drink vendors, not many people really enjoy the summer in the UAE. Most of us tend to cower indoors, feeling for those who must work outside, and glumly counting the days until cooler weather.
But if you are going to be here through the hot weather this year, don't despair. The annual Abu Dhabi Summer Festival, which kicks off today and runs until August 17, promises diversion, entertainment, and variety.
Organisers promise that this year's version, the fifth, will be bigger, longer and more diverse than ever. Family-friendly entertainment shows and discounts at hotels and attractions such as Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, are intended to appeal to residents and even attract tourists.
And if you thought sport takes a backseat in summer, you are mistaken. For the first time ever, this year's festival will feature a month of sporting activities at the du Forum on Yas Island.
Today's edition of The National includes schedule details and other information about the events. We advise you to inform yourself and take advantage of the festival. After all, summer won't last forever.
