Ze Mario has been sacked as Ajman coach after four consecutive losses in the Pro League. The Brazilian, who took over the reins at the club in the second half of last season, is the second coach to lose his job after four games of the Pro League. Al Shabab dismissed Toninho Cerezo on Saturday. Last season, 12 Pro League managers were sacked or quit their jobs. Khalid Hosni has been put in charge of the Ajman team on a temporary basis as the club negotiate with Tunisian Ghazi Ghrairi, the former coach of Sportif Sfaxien.

Ajman were embarrassed by a 3-1 home defeat by promoted side Emirates in their last match, but Ze Mario had vowed not to step down after the loss. He said: "It is not in my character to resign or flee. I have never done that in my career. But I am not upset with the decision of the club. Every coach has been sacked at some time. It is a common occurrence in the world of football." Ze Mario admitted his spell at Ajman has been one of the worst of his career, which includes stints at some of the biggest clubs in the region. He won the double with Al Wasl in 2007. The 60-year-old lost 10 of his 12 games with Ajman and said: "I have trained several teams, but never been in a situation like this before.

"Ajman has been the worst phase of my career. I've never had such bad results before." @Email:arizvi@thenational.ae
