UAE swimmer Al Besher outside the medals in Pan Arab Games
The UAE women's volleyball team easily defeated Qatar yesterday for their second win at the Arab Games in Doha.
The 25-18, 25-10, 25-8 victory left the UAE team with six points from four games in the preliminary round. They trail Group C leaders Algeria and Egypt, who have nine points each going into their head-to-head match today.
Fatma Hassan again led the UAE team with 17 points, all from spikes, against Qatar. Rawya Bekhit added seven points off spikes, and Muna Abdulla scored six points off her serve.
In swimming yesterday, Mubarek Al Besher of the UAE finished fifth in a time of 29.45 seconds in the final of the men's 50-metre breaststroke, which was won by Tunisia's Wassim Elloumi. Al Besher reached the final by taking second place in his qualifying heat. Compatriot Mohamed Jasim Shafee finished third in his heat.
The UAE has won 22 medals so far, including six gold, four bronze and 12 silver. Their athletes have a busy schedule today, with competitions in sailing, swimming, shooting, athletics, pool and goalball.
