UAE overcome Malaysia at Fiba Asia Championship

Rashid Al Zaabi scored 21 points to help the UAE to an 89-87 victory over Malaysia on Friday in the Fiba Asia Championship in Wuhon, China.

Al Zaabi, the Al Wasl swingman, scored seven of the final 11 points for the UAE, who play Syria for ninth place on Saturday, their final game of the tournament.

Ali Al Hattawi, the power forward from Al Shabab, scored 20 points and took six rebounds, and Ibrahim Ahmad, the Wasl point guard, scored 16 points.

In a quarter-final game, Jordan surprised the two-time defending champions Iran 88-84 to reach the semi-finals.
