UAE hopes will ride with Steeler and Van Der Neer

Steeler and Van Der Neer look to continue the UAE's success in the British Flat season at Doncaster.

Only Godolphin have flown the flag for the UAE at an elite level during the British Flat season but owners Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed and Saeed Manana can have a say in Saturday's Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.

Steeler lines up for the Crown Prince with six others in the final British Group 1 of the season, while the rapidly improving Van Der Neer provides Manana with a gilt-edged opportunity to register his first victory at the highest level in Britain since Rajeem took the Falmouth Stakes in 2006.

Steeler has won three of his five starts. Van Der Neer comes into the mile contest unbeaten after two fluid wins. Such is the colt's promise that Manana decided to supplement the son of Dutch Art for £17,500 (Dh103,600) this week.

Connections have no concerns about the rain-softened going.

"Everyone who has ridden Van Der Neer has been complimentary," said Richard Hannon, the trainer. "He has a great attitude and he has showed he can quicken."

Steeler has proved that he has the ability to win at Group 1 level, having beaten Godolphin's Artigiano in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket last month.

Steeler looks a perfect type for the Derby at Epsom next year and is likely to be campaigned in the royal blue silks of Godolphin, rather than the green and red of Sheikh Hamdan.
