The South African born batsman is one of two fresh faces in the 14-man England squad for the fourth Ashes Test.
Trott receives surprise Ashes call-up
LONDON // The South African born Warwickshire Batsman Jonathan Trott was a surprise inclusion in the 14-man England squad for the fourth Test against Australia at Headingley. Trott, 28, is uncapped by England but the batsman is in a rich vein of form scoring 831 first-class runs for Warwickshire this season. He is thought to be on standby for the all-rounder Andrew Flintoff who is nursing a knee-injury.
England also bolstered their bowling options by naming Ryan Sidebottom as well as Steve Harmison in the Ashes squad for the fourth Test starting this Thursday. Harmison, like Trott, is also waiting on the availability of Flintoff, should the selectors choose a bowling option rather than batting one for the talismanic Lancastrian. Sidebottom comes into the squad just as Stuart Broad's place in the team has come into doubt after a disappointing series so far with the ball. Spinner Monty Panesar was left out.
England lead the five-Test series 1-0 after the drawn third Test at Edgbaston yesterday. * Reuters
