Tricky draw for UAE clubs in the Asian Champions League

Al Wahda, the Pro League champions, have been handed a tough group in the draw for the 2011 Asian Champions League.

The Abu Dhabi side have been placed in Group C of the western half of the draw, along with Saudi Arabia giants Al Ittihad, big-spending Uzbek club Bunyodkor and Piroozi from Iran.

No UAE club reached the knockout stages of the competition this year and it will be a challenge for Wahda to make it out of the group.

Things are no easier for Abu Dhabi rivals Al Jazira, who face two heavyweights of Asian football, Al Hilal from Saudi Arabia and Al Gharafa from Qatar, as well as Iran's Sepahan.

Emirates, the second division side who won the President's Cup last season, must play Al Rayyan (Qatar), Zobahan (Iran) and Al Shabab (Saudi) while Al Ain, winners of the trophy in 2003, face a one-off play-off against the East Asian qualifiers.

The group stage starts on March 1.
