Ernst Oertel

The UAE champion trainer not only hopes to defend his crown but is looking beyond with the exciting arrival Battle Of Marengo from Aidan O’Brien’s Ballydoyle Stables aimed at the Dubai World Cup. The South African will once again rely on his Purebred Arabians to provide the majority of the winners while Battle Of Marengo will be his flagship thoroughbred.

Musabah Al Muhairi

The Emirati was pipped at the post by one winner for the UAE trainers’ championship last season. In 2011, he was edged by his brother-in-law Ali Rashid Al Raihe, by virtue of better second-place finishes after the two were locked on 30 winners each. Al Muhairi will be hoping to be third-time lucky. He saddled 33 winners last season and the Oasis Stables trainer’s strength once again would be with his string of thoroughbreds.

Ali Rashid Al Raihe

After winning three successive UAE titles, through 2012, Al Raihe settled for third behind Oertel and Al Muhairi in a thrilling finish for the trainers’ crown last season. He calls the trainers’ title “decorative” and says saddling “a steady flow of winners” remains his main objective. Al Raihe’s Grandstand Stables has two primary patrons, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid and Jaber Abdullah.
