In the athletics world, Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge made history after becoming the first person to run a marathon in under two hours.

The 34-year-old, accompanied by a posse of 41 pacemakers and a car in front of them setting the pace, achieved the incredibe feat in the specially arranged Ineos 1:59 Challenge that took place in Vienna, Austria.

American teenager Coco Gauff won her first WTA title after beating Jelena Ostapenko in the Linz Open.

The 15-year-old, who only entered the field as a lucky loser after failing to qualify became the youngest player to win a WTA event since Czech Nicole Vaidisova triumphed in Vancouver in 2004.

On the football pitch, Portugal attacker Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th career goal in their Euro 2020 qualifying defeat against Ukraine.
