Cori Gauff's dream run at Wimbledon is over after the 15 year old was beaten by No 7 Simona Halep in the fourth round on Monday.
The teenager, who had created headlines across the world when she beat seven-time major winner Venus Williams in the first round, lost to the Romanian 6-3, 6-3 on Court One.
Gauff put up a brave effort. She was broken by former world No 1 Halep in the opening game, but immediately broke back.
However, Halep, the 2018 French Open champion, would go on to break Gauff's serve twice more as she won the set.
The second set saw an early exchange of serves again before Halep broke in the sixth game.
But Gauff battled on, saving two match points on her own serve in the eighth game, before Halep clinched the match in the next game.
Meanwhile, Serena Williams remains on track to win a record 24th grand slam after reaching the quarter-finals.
She proved too strong for Carla Suaraz Navarro in their fourth-round clash as she cruised through 6-2, 6-2.
An eighth Wimbledon crown would see her draw level on 24 majors with Margaret Court.
Next up for her on Tuesday is American compatriot Alison Riske, who shocked world No 1 Ashleigh Barty.
Barty, who had won the French Open in June, and had charged through to the last 16 at Wimbledon without dropping a set, came unstuck against American Riske.
The world No 55 came from a set down to triumph 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Court Two.
Also through to the quarter-finals is No 8 seed Elina Svitolina. She beat Petra Martic 6-4, 6-2.
It will be the first time that Svitolina, the two-time WTA Dubai Duty Free Championships winner, has made it to the last eight at Wimbledon.
