WIMBLEDON // Zheng Jie became the first Chinese player to reach the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament by beating Nicole Vaidisova 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 in the Wimbledon quarter-finals. The 24-year-old Zheng is also the first female wild-card entrant to reach the semi-finals at the All England Club and second at any Grand Slam. Zheng, playing at Wimbledon for only the third time, will face Serena Williams, who beat Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 6-0 in her quarter-final match, in the semi-finals.

Serena joined sister Venus in the last four with victory over Radwanska. The eight-time Grand Slam champion, who is looking for her third title on the grass courts of Wimbledon, could meet her older sibling in the Wimbledon final for the third time. Younger-sister Serena won both of their previous meetings in the final, in 2002 and 2003. *AP
