DUBAI // Serena Williams booked her place in the semi-final of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after dispatching Jelena Jankovic 6-2, 6-2 on Thursday evening at the Aviation Club.

The World No1 looked untroubled throughout, using ruthless aggression to pull her opponent around the court on route to breaking early in the first set. With the lead in her pocket, she was able to experiment a little and uncharacteristically proceeded to play several drop shots.

In the second set, with the tie poised at 5-2, Jankovic appeared to complain that Williams was delaying the Serb’s serve. Williams denied the accusation and a brief tete-a-tete occurred. When the match resumed, Williams closed it out with a powerful cross court volley that left her opponent with no chance.

Williams’s victory ensures the 32 year old a place in the final four, where she will meet either Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro or Alize Cornet of France.
