DUBAI // Roger Federer, the world No 2 and member of the UAE Royals, has confirmed that he will compete in the Dubai, New Delhi and Singapore legs of the 2015 International Premier Tennis League (IPTL).
Federer is part of a Royals side that includes Marin Cilic, Tomas Berdych, Ana Ivanovic, Kristina Mladenovic, Daniel Nestor and Goran Ivanisevic.
They will compete against four other franchises – the Indian Aces, Singapore Slammers, Philippine Mavericks (formerly Manila Mavericks) and newcomers Japan Warriors – in the team competition, which begins on December 2.
Each match is five sets; men’s singles, women’s singles, mixed doubles, men’s doubles and a men’s legends’ singles, with the order of play decided by the home team.
The Indian Aces won the 2014 version.
“I am extremely pleased to be playing for the UAE Royals in Dubai, New Delhi and Singapore,” Federer said. “The atmosphere created by fans in these cities is both warm and electrifying, adding another level of motivation for me personally when I compete against the best in the world at these venues.”
The Dubai leg of IPTL 2015 will take place from December 14-16 at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium.
