Andy Murray will rest his injured left wrist for the next fortnight but is hopeful of playing in the Japan Open beginning on October 5. The Scot has been troubled by the problem since the Cincinnati Masters last month and played through the pain in Great Britain's Davis Cup defeat by Poland at the weekend. He admitted then he would need to take some time off to let the injury heal, and speculated it could be months rather than weeks. A right wrist injury in 2007 ruled the 22-year-old out for three months that included the French Open and Wimbledon, and yesterday he saw the same specialist that had looked after him then.
A scan, though, showed "no long-term damage", a spokesman for his agents 19 Entertainment told the Press Association Sport. Murray has a relatively busy schedule for the rest of the season, with the Japan Open followed by the Shanghai Masters, Valencia Open and Paris Masters before the ATP World Tour Finals in London at the end of November. The world No 3 will now concentrate on fitness work before making a decision next week on whether to travel to Asia. * PA Sport
