John Isner and Lucas Pouille added to $3 million Diriyah Tennis Cup in Saudi Arabia

John Isner and Lucas Poille are the latest big names to sign up for the Diriyah Tennis Cup to take place in Saudi Arabia at the end of the year.

Big-serving American Isner, with more than 1,000 aces this season, and five-time ATP champion Pouille of France, an Australian Open semi-finalist this year, will join the four players already confirmed for the inaugural Diriyah Cup that has a total prize fund of $3 million (Dh11m).

The pair will join three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland, world No 4, Daniil Medvedev of Russia, Fabio Fognini, the first Italian to win an ATP Masters 1,000 title this year in Monte Carlo, and highly-rated Belgian star David Goffin. Two final star wildcards are yet to be revealed.

Peter-Michael Reichel, co-chairman of Basel Sports Group, the tournament organiser, said: “It is getting very exciting now, we have revealed six of our stars, all who rank among the best men’s players on the planet. For passionate tennis fans, and for anyone who enjoys the drama of live sport, this will be a must-see. Especially as this history-making tournament will be played in this iconic and unique location.”

The outdoor hard-court tournament takes place at the 15,000-seater Diriyah Arena from December 12-14. The tournament forms part of the Diriyah Season which will include Diriyah E-Prix, "Clash On The Dunes", the heavyweight boxing rematch between Andy Ruiz Jr and Anthony Joshua, and Diriyah Equestrian Festival, in addition to other entertainment and cultural activities from November 22 to December 21.
