Pakhtakor claimed a win over 10-man Saba Battery of Iran to put themselves in the driving seat in Group A, which contains Al Ahli. Goals from Zaynitdin Tadjiyev and international striker Farhod Tadjiyev moved them onto seven points from three matches, allowing the club from Tashkent to remain in top spot in Group A, even before last night's late game between the Al Hilal, from Saudi Arabia, and Al Ahli in Riyadh.

Mohsen Yousefi was sent off in the 27th minute, the Iranian earning a direct red card after a serious foul on Darko Markovic. Eleven minutes after the restart, Zaynitdin Tadjiyev gave Pakhtakor the lead when he converted a cross from Alexander Geynrikh. In the 63rd minute, Farhod Tadjiyev, who scored a hat-trick in Uzbekistan's 4-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Qatar two weeks ago, sealed the points with a low shot into the corner.
