Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley each homered as the Philadelphia Phillies completed a three-game sweep of the New York Mets with a 2-0 victory. Rollins scored in the first while Utley did in the sixth as Joe Blanton surrendered four hits in seven and a third innings and walked three batters for the Phillies. Luis Castillo had two of the four hits for the Mets. James Loney struck a homer in the 13th inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers edged the San Diego Padres 7-6. The Dodgers had led 6-0, but allowed the Padres back into the game before Loney hit his sixth homer of the season for the win.
Colby Rasmus struck a two-run homer as the St Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 10-1. Rasmus slugged a shot in the first inning while Yadier Molina and Joe Thurston each added two RBI. Derek Lee and Jake Fox each struck two-run homers as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 8-2. Scott Olsen allowed three runs and eight hits in eight and two thirds innings as the Washington Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves 5-3.
Roy Oswalt pitched eight effective innings to guide the Houston Astros to a 7-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants. Oswalt gave up three hits, struck out six and walked one while Miguel Tejada, Hunter Pence and Jason Michaels all hit solo home runs for the Astros. Felipe Lopez struck a seventh-inning RBI single as the Arizona Diamondbacks secured a hard fought 4-3 win over the Colorado Rockies.
